Media Matters for Women connects rural women and girls in Africa with journalists who report regularly and professionally on issues relevant to their lives in the languages they understand.
We are a US-registered non-profit organisation established in 2010 that operates through partners in Sierra Leone and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). We focus on women and girls who are excluded from the digital age due to extreme poverty in Africa.
Our innovative communication networks are changing the way African women receive, share, and use information. We are proving that the dissemination of reliable information in multiple languages can play a vital role in transforming women’s lives.
In June 2017 our Journalists, Executive Director, and an independent evaluator travelled around Sierra Leone to carry out a thorough monitoring and evaluation of our innovative approach to public service broadcasting in rural villages. This video provides a snapshot of the people and places they visited, including all fifteen of the listening centres that we partner with in hospitals, clinics, women's associations and vocational training schools. The essence of Media Matters for Women's mission is to capture the voices of the women and girls and understand how our weekly informational and educational podcasts empower them to know and fulfil their rights.
