Media Matters for Women connects rural women and girls in Africa with a local broadcast journalist who reports regularly on issues important to their lives in their language.

We are a U.S.-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2010 that operates through partnerships with women's rights organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sierra Leone.

Our innovative communication networks are proving that the dissemination of reliable information in multiple languages can play a vital role in transforming women’s lives. Without access to information and dialogue, women are unaware of their rights and entitlements, and cannot take effective action to challenge injustice and improve their lives.

In June 2017 we sent an international evaluation team to assess our innovative approach to public service broadcasting in Sierra Leone's rural villages.

The video below provides a snapshot of the people and places our team visited, including all fifteen of our Listening Centers which are located in hospitals, clinics, women's associations and vocational training schools in three different regions of the country.
